Recruitment and Immigration Filipino worker

Why the Philippines?

Every year, numerous Filipino workers immigrate to Canada. This represents a win-win for both parties: Filipinos are excellent employees who are committed to establishing themselves in Canada and they help ease our labour shortage. For these employees, Canada is a judicious choice thanks to the quality of our services and employers, and the openness of our citizens. Always available and committed, Filipinos are devoted workers, who respect authority; they are known to be loyal and grateful employees.

Here are some interesting facts:

  1. 10 to 15 million employed Filipinos work abroad, mainly in Japan, Canada, Dubai, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Korea.
  2. Remittances sent to the workers’ families in the Philippines represent 11% of their country’s GDP.
  3. Canada represents the #1 destination for Filipino workers; it is where they hope to acquire permanent residency status and provide a better quality of life for their families.
  4. Compared to other countries, it is easier to obtain competency equivalencies since their education is similar to a Canadian education.

The Philippines is now one of Canada’s primary sources of foreign workers

For nearly 30 years, the Philippines have consistently ranked among the top five originating countries of Canadian immigrants; there has been only one exception, in 1997, where it ranked sixth. In the past few years, a high proportion of immigrants born in the Philippines have been admitted via the economic immigrant category of Canada’s immigration policy. From 2012 to 2014, this percentage reached 84.1%.

There are many reasons why Canada has become an attractive destination for Filipinos. Our labour shortage, along with the promise of a high standard of living for each candidate, attracts record numbers.

Canadian employers benefit from hiring Filipino workers. They speak English, they are known for being dedicated workers and they can easily adapt to the Canadian lifestyle.

For many years, Canadian employers have hired more and more foreign temporary workers from the Philippines; many of these workers are entitled to request citizenship within two years of their arrival in Canada.
